#29 – Empty spaces (for post-covid restart)

In these pandemic days, I’m discussing with some friends of mine. They are entrepreneurs in one of the richest area of northern Italy. Subject matter is what we can (or must) ask to our political leaders for a quick restart after covid.

What we surely must not accept is to go on with investment cutting in key services, such as Health and Education. We also must not anymore accept to waste money, giving resources all around, without transparent criteria and clear purposes.

We all know that negotiation means to reorganize and exchange resources with the objective to gain more value than we had before.

So, what must we ask for?

An empty space of opportunity. We urgently need an empty room where companies, entrepreneurs, workers and students can restart to create value for collectivity, money and future.

How does Government produce an empty space of opportunity? Through new rules and fresh money.

Let’s take an example. My first job (and earned money), as a young consultant in the mid ’90s, came from the opportunity provided by TLC liberalization. Mobile services business brough value for tons of people and changed our way of life forever. An entire new business to set up, from infrastructure to phone sellers, from connectivity to mobile advertising.

We now need something similar to that extraordinary opportunity, in terms of positive impact and value creation.

Let’s be creative. Let’s be realistic. Let’s set a possible agenda for our next leaders:

  • move to 100% renewable energy by 5 years
  • reshape Health Care system by 2 years
  • redesign working system on the basis of what we are learning from smartworking lesson, by NOW

Let’s go?
